Sure, Most People Consider Us Nutty, But...

We don't care. We're happy, and excited to announce that another trip to Haiti is in the works. Nothing makes me happier then spending every last dime I have, thanks Adoption Tax Credit, to travel to a third world orphanage and bust my hump, collapsing in exhaustion every night. The best part is that both Mike and I are going. We will be doing some serious packing/moving as the creche is preparing to move to a new location. Who better suited to work at this job then Mike and I as we have mastered 10 moves in 12 years. I've often thought that if I wanted to work with scary truckers for minimum wage, I'd take a job with a moving company...but then again, maybe not.
So yeah, we rarely ever leave the kids and head out on a date, but occasionally we get to leave the country and the four kids to work our tails off in Haiti. Life is good. I'm very thankful for great friends, that are willing to watch our four kiddos. Of course, I will miss them, but I know that they will do fabulous and have a great time while we're gone. And, to show my gratitude and to help Anna recover, I will be sure to bring back plenty of Barbancourt to soothe her nerves.
Every time a trip is in the works, there is always several people(family) that shake their head and wonder as to why we feel the need to head back, because we already got our kids,so why bother(use your best sarcastic voice to read that one)
The thing is every kid in Haiti, that is going without food, love and clean water is just as deserving of everything that life has to offer as my kids. People frequently want to sanctify us for adopting. We wanted to add children to our family, pure and simple. We are not saints. We are just an ordinary mom and dad who wanted more kids. However, I can't look into the sad eyes of the kids who have nothing, and ignore that.
Ironically every person who thinks we're nuts to forgo our retirement account and head to Haiti, has never been there. Regardless of anyone's personal belief's and values, I don't think there are many people who go to Haiti, and can walk away unchanged. As a Christian, I believe that before we spend all our time focusing on rules and pretty buildings, God wants us to devote that energy to helping the helpless. Sometimes when we hear of children dying of simple preventable causes, I think, "why God" and I sometimes wonder if he doesn't look down at all of us and ask us same thing. I'm not writing to guilt anyone, but I think we are all designed with a purpose, and its a beautiful thing when we've discovered that purpose and can pursue it with a passion. So instead of thinking that I'm a crazy, negligent parent to leave my kids and go, feel free to exercise your right to silence or throw unexpired cans of infant formula at me, either is acceptable.
