Thats a question I get fairly often in Bumblyburg. Apparently, everybody that "knows" me didn't notice the baby bump last winter or maybe they tossed it up to Mike's delectable cooking and a long winter. Normally, when I get this question, I want to answer, "Babies R Us!" Since I'm nice, I don't generally do that and save that sort of thing for my blog. I think Gabriella might look a little like me and I'm pretty sure it was obvious that I gave birth to her, but what's obvious to me is not what's obvious to the curious onlookers.
In case your unsure, that cross-eyed baby in the awesome, pink trailer-house sink is me :) I see the resemblence between us.
Anyways, after I tell people that I had Gabriella and she was born in May, they usually respond with some sort of comment about adding to my family the hard way, because we all know that adoption is soooo easy. Naturally, I comment back, and its usually nice, but seriously.....Giving birth is a zillion times easier then adopting. So all the crunchie mamas who like to brag that they gave birth without any drugs all the while smiling through the pain, guess what? Us adoptive mamas, manage to hold onto our sanity for several years of pain and heartache. We gained weight that may never be lost again and then people go around and tell us how "easy" we had it, and then if we slap them, its considered assualt. Sometimes life is not fair. :)
When your pregnant, you can eat right and care for your body, and then you get regular updates from the doctor that all is well. Well, when you adopt from a tumultous country, you spend your time worrying if your child is getting all the nutrition that they need, and slowly going mad, wondering if it will ever end.
Of course, like any mom, I would say that the process was completely worth it, and I'm eternally grateful for my children, regardless of any pain that I had to endure to bring them home to me. It amazes me that God could take children born half a world away and knit them so perfectly into our family.
